Nutritional Costs of your Meds!

Did you know that most of your prescription drugs deplete your body of important nutrients? If you look at the functions of the nurtients in the body, usually they directly relate to the side effects of the drugs. Patients can find their medications much more tolerable when given the nutrients that are depleted.

Here are some common examples of medications and some of their nutreint deficiencies.

1. Antibiotics: will kill off the bad bacteria, but also the good bacteria, leaving your system depleted in probiotics. A Defiency can lead to gas, bloating, diarrhea and bad breath.

2. Anti-inflammatory drugs: this includes Asprin, corticoid steroids, and NSAIDS. These medications may cause a depletion in Vitamin C, calcium, magnesiumand folic acid to name a few.

3. Birth Control Pills: deplete your B vitamins, namely B6. B6 is very important in hormonal health – decreasing menstral cramps and PMS.

4. Cholesterol lowering drugs: can deplete the body of coenzyme Q10 which is very imprtant for heart health.

5. Medications to lower stomach acid (H2 blockers): By blocking the production of stomach acid, B12, calium and iron are not able to be absorbed.
