Make The Most Out Of Your Naturopathic Visit

Seeing us for the first time? Here are some tips to make the most out of your appointment. 🌱👩🏻‍⚕️

1) Write down your medical history before your appointment.

2) Identify any health concerns including digestive problems, sleep troubles, skin issues, or low energy.

3) Naturopaths will take the proper time to get to know you as an individual. Be ready to answer questions about your physical health, emotions, and well-being. This will typically include how much sleep you get per night, what you eat in a day, and how much caffeine and alcohol you consume.

4) Think about the biggest concern regarding your health and what key symptoms have bothered you over the past year.

Calm SAP

One of our favourite products at the clinic is Calm SAP, which promotes relaxation. Mood imbalance and associated disorders have become increasingly common worldwide. Various factors can contribute to mood imbalances, such as food and environmental factors, age, occupation, and previous illnesses or surgeries. Calm SAP is a natural, therapeutic approach with little to no side effects compared to antidepressant medications. Several herbs have been used in traditional medicine and clinically studied for their benefits in the management of mood imbalances. Calm SAP contains evidence-based botanicals that can promote healthy mood balance, relieve sleep disturbances, and provide a calming effect on patients. 🌱😌

Healthy Eating Out Options

Healthy Eating Out Options🌱
With work, children (animal children included), social events, and staying active, life can get quite hectic. We’ve gathered our favourite eating out options that will keep your nutrition on track when you’re in a pinch for something to eat!

1) Chopped Leaf – Chopped Leaf provides delicious salads, wraps, soups, and sandwiches that are filled with high quality, nutritious ingredients so you feel good after you eat! Not only are they a quick meal option, they also offer customers to order and pre-pay online to save even more time. Our favourites are their Sunshine Salad with a salmon filet or their Southwest Salad with chicken. Chopped Leaf is a great choice for vegans and vegetarians as they allow you to completely customize your meals.

2) Freshii – Without compromising on flavour, Freshii offers a Nutritionist-designed menu filled with options to satisfy any dietary requirement including gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and vegan! They pride themselves in providing the optimum fuel to get you through a busy day. Our favourite Freshii items include the Metaboost Salad, Market Salad, Oaxaca Bowl, and Superfood Soup.

3) Booster Juice – We all know and love Booster Juice smoothies! Did you know Booster Juice also showcases their balanced, great-tasting meals packed with vitamins and nutrients so customers stay full. This includes energy bowls, chia pudding, grilled paninis, and protein wraps. All of their smoothies are nut-free, low in fat, and blended with 100% pure fruit juice. We love their Berry Cream Sensation Smoothie.

4) Sushi – Call your nearby sushi restaurant and place an order to-go when you’re hungry and on a busy schedule. Sushi is a great source of protein and nutrients. Stay away from the fried stuff, and choose from california rolls, raw sushi (nigiri, maki, sashimi) edamame beans, avocado rolls, or seaweed salad.

5) Local Grocery Store – Local grocery stores are great if you’re crunched for time but need something healthy on-the-go. Most offer pre-made salads filled with fresh vegetables and protein, as well as quick, nutritional snacks. For example, Save On always has ready-to-go chef salads, caeser salads, sausage, cheese, and cracker plates, cut-up veggies and dip, hummus cups, and fresh fruit cups.

Kick Sugar Cravings!

Addicted to the sweet stuff? Kick sugar cravings aside with our top 10 tips! 🍬

1. Practice healthy habits such as hot lemon water in the morning to cleanse the liver and remove waste from the intestines. 🍋

2. Don’t make up for over eating at night by not eating in the morning, it will only encourage a late afternoon sweets binge. Keep healthy snacks on you at all times. 🍓

3. Exercise! Our dopamine receptors love sugar, therefore working out encourages dopamine production in the body. This typically leads our body to crave healthier foods after a sweat sesh. 🏋🏼‍♀️

4. Getting enough sleep will keep the hunger hormone (ghrelin) at bay! Sleep in a dark, cool room to boost the sleep hormone, melatonin, for a more restful night. 💤

5. Avoid artificial sweeteners; they create a surge in insulin which leads to stronger sugar cravings. Opt for replacing artificial sweeteners with Stevia, cinnamon, or honey. 🍯

6. Turn to the dark side. Dark chocolate will curb sugar cravings and increase serotonin, as well as give the body a boost of antioxidants and caffeine. 🍫

7. Stick to whole, unprocessed foods and limit simple carbohydrates, which are sugar in disguise. 🍲

8. Try eating fermented foods such as sauerkraut and kefir. These foods contribute to good gut bacteria, reducing the chance your sugar cravings are from an imbalance of yeast in the body.

9. Incorporate acidic foods such as tomato sauce, which reduce blood sugar spikes. 🍅

10. Feel satisfied after meals by combining protein, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates. This balanced combination helps release the PPY hormone, which signals that you are full and halts any cravings. 🥑
